Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964, is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
